“Orpheus & Eurydice” project

Movement codification

Year

2010

Context

After attempting to codify sound, I focused on the codification of gesture and choreographic notation, analyzing dances from various cultures and their graphic representations.

Drawing on Pina Bausch’s opera Orpheus und Eurydike, I was able to define, develop, and refine my process of writing movement in a more synthetic way, testing its real-time application through a “choreographic score.”

For this project, I collaborated with Susanna Marcelino, a professional choreographer based in Nancy, who studied my notation system in depth over several weeks. On the day of the diploma presentation, we staged a public performance in which she interpreted live all the signs I was drawing, without having seen them beforehand.
